Not Back To School Blog Hop - Learning Spaces

It's the week for sharing our learning spaces. Which is why it's taken a couple of days to get the pictures....I had to tidy up the desk. :)

At the moment E and myself share a desk space. I just vacate it when he needs to work in a focused space. Since Christmas that's only been while building large lego sets that take 3 days. As you know we are De-Schooling at the moment which is trial and error for us. But I do consider 3 days of building a huge lego set as learning...

We discuss:
- how it feels to focus
- how he uses the pictures to enhance his spatial concepts
- how he feels and can tell that he needs a break
- how it feels to go to bed with it unfinished
- how it feelswhen he can't find a piece

Of course all of this relates to the Asperger's type symptoms of 'black & white' emotions and anxiety levels.

Above is where we store other learning resources.

E was given a very large HP touch screen PC for his birthday. We were sharing a laptop and we were continuously wanting to use it at the same time. With me on the losing end mostly.

We didn't realise how big the PC would be - it's enormous and doesn't fit on our desk so it is beside Dad's in the 'office' at the moment.

We also didn't think the use of the Touch Screen would come so naturally. I can't even find the mouse in this picture. He doesn't use it. The downside.......the screen always looks dirty.

And of course it wouldn't be complete with our outdoor areas. We moved to acreage to help E learn about himself and sustainability. We wanted him to get out more. On the right you can see our pool fence and behind it our 14ft trampoline (we used to have an 8ft in the city).

Here is a picture from the front of the house where we sit and watch the birds (and obviously chickens) in the morning. It always inspires E to get the camera and wander around shooting.

  4. Love your spaces and I agree three days of Lego is awesome learning.

And, being a chicken devotee, I just love the girl showing up in the last pic! You can never do anything outside without them being interested in what you're up to.

    1. Oh yes....the chickens. I call them my posse - they are always right under my hoe or following me around somewhere.

  7. You've seen the Lego Unit over at Homeschool Share, right? My kids didn't believe it was "school" either considering they had a lego challenge every day. ;)
